| FLYING DOLPHIN XVII Propeller damaged by obstruction Sep 26 20:41The Port Authority of Aegina was informed in the morning of Sep 26, 2020, by the master of the 'Flying Dolphin XVII' that shortly after the departure of the vessel from the port on the scheduled route to Piraeus with 37 passengers on board, an obstruction jammed the port side propeller of the ship. The hydrofoil returned independently to the port of Aegina where it disembarked the passengers, who were forwarded to their destination with the care of the owner. During an inspection by the Local Ship Inspection Unit as well as by a private diver, it was found that part of one blade of the propeller was lost and the other two were distorted. The Port Authority of Aegina banned the ship from sailing until the repair of the damage and the presentation of a class maintenance certificate by the monitoring classification society. Crew member injured in fall on board Sep 01 10:41The Port Authority Tzelepis was informed at noon on Aug 31, 2020, about the injury of a 57-year-old crew member of the 'Flying Dolphin XVII'. He had lost his balance, resulting in an injury to his left leg. A preliminary investigation was carried out by the First Port Department of Tzelepis of the Central Port Authority of Piraeus. Hydrofoil lost wing Sat Oct 05 2019 17:46The Ermioni Port Authority was informed in the morning of Sep 4 by the captain of the 'Flying Dolphin XVII', that during the sailing from the port of Hydra a sharp vibration on the axis of the port side main engine was remarked. The ship arrived at Ermioni port late at a reduced speed. The vessel, which was scheduled to depart from Piraeus on the route Poros - Hydra - Ermioni - Spetses, sailed to the port of Ermioni where the 63 passengers were disembarked. Ten went to Ermioni, while 53 went to Spetses where they were carried to their destination with the care of the ship's owner. The ship was banned from sailing in Ermioni by the Nafplio Port Authority, while a private diver and an inspector found a loss of about one-third of its wing. In the afternoon, upon presentation of a certificate from the attending classification society, the vessel was allowed to perform a solo sailing to the Perama Repair Base. | ANITA Yacht crew still stuck in New Zealand Sep 29 12:42The crew of the 'Anita' was still being held in police custody while they continue to wait for a flight home. A Warrant of Commitment hearing took place on sep 29 with the court granting INZ permission to detain the crew until Oct 2. The crew, aged in their late twenties to early thirties, were intercepted by NZ Customs in the afternoon of Sep 25 as they headed into Opua. NZ Customs had been alerted that the boat was still planning to breach New Zealand's border restrictions after being denied exemption Visas by the Ministry of Health. The German nationals were taken to Auckland where they are being detained in police custody. Arrangements were underway to send them home but the limited flights out of New Zealand due to Covid-19 meant it could take a few days for the trio to depart. The yacht was moved from the Quarantine Dock to another berth at the Opua Marina on Sep 25 where it remained while an investigation was carried out by NZ Customs. The vessel was liable for seizure and duty liability under the Customs and Excise Act and was being held in Customs' control pending further investigation and evaluation. The timeframe for the investigation was unknown at this stage. Residents in homes overlooking the bay spotted the yacht coming in the afternoon with a yellow flag on its mast indicating it was from overseas. The 'Anita' arrived about 3 p.m., escorted by the Customs NZ patrol vessel 'Hawk V'. The crew was making no secret of the yacht's arrival flying its yellow maritime flag which was used to indicate that a vessel was free of quarantinable disease and request boarding and inspection. There was a large crowd gathered at the marina including customs officers, three police cars and a pop-up Covid testing station. While no charges have been laid against the crew, Immigration NZ said the refusal of entry to New Zealand could have long-term consequences. Their visa waiver status could be suspended and it could affect their ability to travel to other countries. The Ministry of Health confirmed at the weekend that all three had returned negative Covid-19 tests and had been isolating on the boat for more than 14 days. ANITA Crew of German yacht detained in Opua Sep 26 22:03Three Germans who sailed to the Bay of Islands on the 'Anita' have been detained while Immigration NZ makes arrangements to remove them from the country on the next available flight. The yacht arrived in Opua in the afternoon of Sep 25, 2020, despite being declined permission to enter the country by the Ministry of Health. They had requested an exception to the Covid-19 marine border restrictions for their vessel, but chose to set off on their voyage before receiving approval. The 'Anita' was met by the Customs NZ patrol vessel 'Hawk V' and escorted to a quarantine dock at the Opua marina. The Ministry of Health confirmed the vessel did apply for an exemption, “albeit after they had already sailed for New Zealand. They applied for exemptions on two grounds, humanitarian and bringing the vessel to New Zealand for repairs. Their application was declined because the Director-General of Health was not reasonably satisfied that the ship had a compelling need to arrive in New Zealand that reached the high threshold required for either of these exemptions. | PATRICIA OLDENDORFF 17 crew members tested positive for coronavirus Sep 29 12:07The 'Patricia Oldendorff' has reported eight new positive coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, taking the total number in the cluster to 17 as of Sep 29. The vessel had arrived from Manila with 10 infected crew members now in hotel quarantine and only seven left on board the vessel. Two of the crew members were being tested to see if they previously contracted the virus by the WA Medical Assistance Team (WAMAT). The ship was in need of nine sailors, as 13 were required to effectively run the vessel. The cluster did not put the wider community at risk of infection. PATRICIA OLDENDORFF Capesize bulk carrier devastated by authorities Sep 28, 2020 at 06:38.Capesize bulk carrier PATRICIA OLDENDORFF left Gwangyang, Korea, on Aug 30, bound for Hedland Australia, on Sep 4 she entered Manila Bay and anchored, obviously for the purpose of crew change. She left Manila next day and headed for Australia. She anchored at Hedland anchorage on Sep 16, and in Sep 16-18 period, almost all the crew with just two exceptions (soon to be p-tested, too), were positive tested. As of morning Sep 28, 13 crew were already taken ashore and put into quarantine hotel. “They cant leave their rooms, food and other provisions are brought to them as required, a temporary fence has been set up around the hotel to strengthen security measures at the quarantine hotel”. Of the remaining 9 crew, 7 were p-tested, and there are security and rapid response teams on board of hapless bulk carrier. The crew at this stage are either non-symptomatic, or they are (have) very few symptoms – said WA Health minister Roger Cook. Mr Cook warned there is a risk of new outbreak in the state if its not contained, with more cases expected to come from the ship. "If it gets out into the community it will create a disaster, worse than what we've seen in Melbourne ," he said. | MAERSK PROGRESS Tanker with seized oil without destination Sep 28 10:04The 'Maersk Progress' has been sailing around with seized Iranian oil in its cargo for about two months now because the ownership of the oil has ended in a showdown in the courts. This ship and the tanker 'Euroforce' have therefore not yet been able to unload the more than one million barrels oil in a US port. The Iranian oil on board the two ships was confiscated by the US Department of Justice from four Greek-controlled tankers heading for Venezuela in an effort to prevent trade in oil and oil products between the two sanctioned countries. The oil been on board Maersk Progress and Euroforce since July, when the two ships entered US waters while waiting to be told where the oil was to be unloaded. But the case remained unresolved due to the lawsuits. On Sep 22, 2020, two companies claiming to own the oil asked a US judge to release the cargo, arguing that the seizure "was based on a number of unfounded assumptions". The Oman Fuel and Sohar Fuel thus pointed out that the oil on board was on its way to customers in Peru and Colombia - not Venezuela. But the US Department of Justice maintained that the fuel comes from companies with close ties to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and that they tried to mask ownership. Therefore, the seizure was correct in relation to the US sanctions against Iran, the ministry stated in the case. The 'Euroforce', which was the first to arrive in US waters, has been off the coast of Texas for a few weeks, while the 'Maersk Progress' was off Miami, Florida on Sep 24 with Houston as its destination.
