Amphibious assault ship (LHA - LHD - LPD)

MEDITERRANEAN SEA (March 16, 2008) The amphibious transport dock ship USS Nashville (LPD 13) opens her stern gate to allow Sailors to do some recreational fishing while the ship is in transit. Nashville is deployed with the Nassau Expeditionary Strike Group supporting maritime security and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. Navy 6th Fleet area of responsibility.

GULF OF THAILAND (May 8, 2008) The amphibious dock landing ship USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49) at anchor in the Gulf of Thailand. Harpers Ferry is part of the Essex Expeditionary Strike Group and is participating in Cobra Gold 08, a joint military exercise sponsored by the United States and Thailand designed to enhance interoperability between joint U.S. forces and the combined forces of the Thai, Singaporean, Japanese and Indonesian militaries.

GULF OF THAILAND (May 8, 2008) The amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) at anchor in the Gulf of Thailand. Essex is the lead ship of the only forward-deployed U.S. expeditionary strike group and is participating in Cobra Gold 08, a joint military exercise sponsored by the United States and Thailand designed to enhance interoperability between joint U.S. forces and the combined forces of the Thai, Singaporean, Japanese and Indonesian militaries.

PERSIAN GULF (May 7, 2008) SH-60F Seahawks assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) on the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Nassau (LHA 4) during a week-long session of maritime security training exercises. Lincoln and Nassau are deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.

PERSIAN GULF (May 12, 2008) An MH-60 Seahawk helicopter approaches the amphibious assault ship USS Nassau (LHA 4). Nassau is one of six vessels in the Nassau Strike Group deployed in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations supporting Maritime Security Operations.

NEW YORK (May 21, 2008) The amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) passes by the Statue of Liberty as it steams up the Hudson River during the Parade of Ships for Fleet Week New York 2008. More than 4,000 Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen will participate in various community relations projects and make a port call to New York City.
