Navy Aircraft : F18 Hornet & Super Hornet - E-2 Hawkeye ...

One of the mothballed F-14 Tomcat fighter jets at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base Monday, June 11, 2007, in Tucson, Ariz., awaits demolition. The Defense Department is taking new security steps and paying a contractor to tear apart old F-14s at the base in Tucson, the military's "boneyard" for retired jets.

PACIFIC OCEAN (Nov. 5, 2007) - An F/A-18C Hornet, assigned to the "Vigilantes" of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 151, left, and an F/A-18F Super Hornet assigned to the "Bounty Hunters" of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 2, line up in preparation to be launched off the flight deck of Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72). Lincoln and embarked Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 2 are underway off the coast of Southern California participating in Composite Training Unit Exercise.

AFGHANISTAN (Nov. 7, 2007) - An F/A-18C Hornet, attached to the "Knighthawks" of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 136, heads north into Afghanistan during sunset, just prior to beginning a Close Air Support mission in support of ground forces. VFA-136 is assigned to Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 1 embarked aboard USS Enterprise (CVN 65). Enterprise Carrier Strike Group is on a scheduled deployment in support of maritime operations and the global war on terrorism.

YOKOSUKA, Japan (Dec. 5, 2007) A Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 115 E-2C Hawkeye is lowered onto the pier from the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63). The aircraft was moved to a barge and will be returned to Naval Air Facility Atsugi, Japan, in the next few days.

ATLANTIC OCEAN (Dec. 17, 2007) Two F/A-18F Super Hornets, attached to the "Checkmates" of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 211, conduct an airborne refueling during an air-power demonstration held by the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65). Enterprise and embarked Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 1 are underway on a scheduled six-month deployment.

ATLANTIC OCEAN (Feb. 20, 2008) Aviation boatswain's mate handlers prepare to chock and chain a MV-22 Osprey during flight operations aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Nassau (LHA 4). Nassau deployed as part of the Nassau Expeditionary Strike Group in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility.

PERSIAN GULF (March 6, 2008) An AV-8B Harrier, assigned to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron (Reinforced) HMM-166 (REIN), lands on the amphibious assault ship USS Tarawa (LHA 1). Tarawa is operating in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility to help deter destabilizing activities and safeguard regional links to the global economy.

PACIFIC OCEAN (March 31, 2008) Sailors move an F/A-18F Super Hornet assigned to the "Black Aces" of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 41 onto an elevator to lift the aircraft to the flight deck of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68 ). Nimitz is deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet operating in the western Pacific and Indian oceans.
