Submarines (SSN - SSBN - SSGN)

SOUDA BAY, Crete (Nov. 24, 2007) The Los Angeles-class nuclear-powered submarine USS Montpelier (SSN 765) arrives in Souda Harbor for a routine port visit. Montpelier departed her homeport of Norfolk, Va., earlier this month for a scheduled six-month deployment as part of the HARRY S. TRUMAN Strike Group. The submarine will operate in the Central Command area of responsibility both independently and in coordination with the strike group.

GROTON, Conn. (Feb. 22, 2008) Storekeeper 2nd Class Mike Hyatt shovels off the pier next to the Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine USS Philadelphia (SSN 690) on a blustery, snowy morning. A snowstorm arriving earlier than predicated caused problems across the region and Sailors on Naval Submarine Base New London had to work hard to keep up with it.

KINGS BAY, Ga. (March 28, 2008) Friends and family members of the crew of the guided-missile submarine USS Georgia (SSGN 729) tour the boat before a return to service ceremony at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay. The boat has been converted from a ballistic-missile submarine to a guided-missile submarine.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (May 3, 2008) Sailors "man the ship" and officially bring the newest Virginia-class nuclear attack submarine USS North Carolina (SSN 777) to life during her commissioning ceremony. North Carolina is the fourth Virginia-class submarine to be commissioned and the first major U.S. Navy combatant vessel class designed with the post-Cold War security environment in mind. North Carolina will be homeported in Groton, Conn., as a member of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet.

US nuclear submarine 'USS Florida', which is carrying MK-48 torpedoes and 154 'tomahawk' cruise missiles, is docked at Gibraltar's port, after it arrived at the Rock, on 07 May 2008. Ecologist group, Ecologistas en Accion, has denounced the submarine docking despite requests made after the ‘Tireless’ case in 2002 that this type of submarines no longer be allowed to stay on the Rock. The Spanish Ministry for Foreign Affairs has confirmed that the submarine is carrying out a routine stop-over and that they had been informed by the United States government.

DIEGO GARCIA (March 8, 2008) Sailors aboard the fast-attack submarine USS Dallas (SSN 700) and contractors from DG-21 help moor the submarine pulls into port to conduct a voyage repair period at Navy Support Facility Diego Garcia. Dallas is on a scheduled six-month deployment to the European and Central commands areas of responsibility. Fast-attack submarines deploy all over the world in support of fleet and theater mission objectives as well as participating in international exercises that build peaceful relationships with foreign navies.

PUGET SOUND, Wash. (April 14, 2017) - The Seawolf-class fast-attack submarine USS Jimmy Carter (SSN 23) transits the Hood Canal as the boat returns home to Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor.
